Read about how becoming an Amazon bookseller is helping me REDUCE and REUSE.
Diana Leafe Christian, author and activist, gave an enlightening presentation about ecovillages at the Brecht Forum early this month. She explained what an ecovillage consisted of and described the lifestyle and principals of various ecovillages around the world, including the one in which she currently resides, Earth Haven in North Carolina.
I don’t normally make New Year’s resolutions- it’s too much pressure- but the Story of Stuff has inspired me to make a few changes this year. I have listed them below and hope to write about my progress on each of these throughout the year.
The Story of Stuff, an animation that depicts the lifecycle of “stuff”, cleared up a lot of questions I had about what environmental responsibility and sustainability really means. This simple and concise animation explains how stuff travels through a linear system from EXTRACTION to PRODUCTION to DISTRIBUTION to CONSUMPTION to DISPOSAL and the problems inherent in this system at every step of the way. It makes suggestions on how to protest this materials economy and calls for the adoption of a new, sustainable and just way of living.
In simpler times there was only one credential that could be earned from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and once merited you were known as a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP). Directed by Robert McFalls, the film is a humbling documentary about the Dervaes family farm. But here’s the clincher- the family farm, which harvests over 6000 lbs of produce annually, is actually located [...]

They call this tool the “Acme Brick Masonry Designer” and it is downloadable for free at http://www.brick.com/md/index.htm . Although not originally meant for this purpose, I have been using this tool for [...]
